American Federation Of Teachers

American Federation of Teachers (AFT) is one of the nation’s largest and most important teachers’ unions in the United States, looking for solutions that bring educators, business leaders and workforce development specialists together to help students prepare for and navigate their entry into the world of work. With Learn to Compete, the AFT sees the added opportunity to galvanize communities – including parents, students, and teachers – to realize a better future through quality education. AFT has sent many of its leaders to see a Learn to Compete model in action.  Among them: Rob Weil (deputy director of educational issues and Jewell Gould, head of research and statistics, and Ed McElroy, former president of the AFT and current president of ULLICO).  The AFT seeks best of breed programs – union and non-union – to support the innovative and effective learning environments.  AFT understands the significance of STEM and is intent on preparing workers for the future.

AFT President Randi Weingarten is the Labor Chair of the Council of Competitiveness’ Learn to Compete Commission.
